A sexual assault can be a devastating physical and emotional experience. Dealing with the trauma of a sexual assault can be difficult.
While a sexual assault may never be forgotten, you can recover. At the SATC, support is available for anyone who experiences sexual violence. We have experienced professional counselors to help with your healing.
If you are a victim of sexual abuse, call the Sex Abuse Treatment Center’s (SATC) 24-hour hotline at 808-524-7273 and connect with an SATC crisis counselor. They will offer you the support, care, and advocacy you need at this difficult time. A SATC counsellor can help you with medical care, reporting to the police, telling family or friends, and other questions you may have.
After medical care and a Medical Forensic Exam at Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children, you will be informed of available follow-up services and, if you wish, you will receive a call from a SATC crisis counselor a few days later to discuss your options. Your SATC crisis counselor will make arrangements for you if you want further counseling, guidance, and advocacy services.
Your crisis counselor can help you through difficult decisions (Should I report to the police? Should I tell others what happened?) and can support you as you work on regaining a sense of normalcy. This support is available even if you didn’t have the forensic examination. If you are interested in longer term therapy, the SATC crisis counselor can also assist you to find a therapist.
