Education & Training for Teachers
The Sex Abuse Treatment Center provides a series of four curricula designed to protect children from the serious impacts of sexual violence and to promote safe, respectful relationships. SATC also offers an interactive and personalized training program for schools and/or youth-based organizations to help enable staff to comfortably and effectively teach the curricula to students.

K-12 Curricula Teacher Training
Length of Training: 7 hours
Participants will be taught an overview of sexual violence - its prevalence and dynamics, how to respond to student disclosures of sexual violence, and how to implement the curriculum lessons.
The K-12 Curricula Offer:
- Alignment with the Hawai'i Health Education Standards (HCPS III).
- Age-appropriate materials and activities that build students' knowledge and skills.
- Detailed lesson plans with tips for teaching and answers to common questions.
- Tools for educators to prepare themselves, parents, and schools/orgs to effectively educate students.
- Information and links to resources to help students affected by sexual violence.
K-12 Curricula Presentations
Length of Training: Variable (Based on request)
A SATC educator can provide direct delivery of our K-12 curricula (descriptions listed below) to students.
Multi-session classroom presentations are also available for children in grades K-12. The goal of the presentations is to help young people lead healthy, violence-free lives. They cover a range of topics tailored to a student's grade level, from basic lessons on personal boundaries and accessing help if victimized, to lessons on sexual harassment, and cultivating safe, respectful relationships.
- Empowers students to assert their personal boundaries and to respect others' boundaries.
- Helps students identify personal resources for support and safety.
- Emphasizes the importance of being respected in all relationships.
My Body is Special (Grades K-2)
Students learn rules to help protect themselves from unsafe situations and touches. They also learn body safety concepts and to tell a trusted grown-up if unsafe touching happens to them.
My Body, My Boundaries (Grades 3-5)
Students learn how to recognize and respond to unsafe, or sexually abusive behaviors (referred to as unwanted talking, showing, and touching of private parts). They also learn how to identify and respect personal boundaries, how to stay safe online, trusting their intuition, and telling a trusted adult when they feel unsafe.
[ r e s p e c t ]™ (Grades 6-8)
This social-emotional learning curriculum teaches students tools to keep themselves and others safe while promoting respectful relationships. Four lessons set clear definitions of sexual violence, bullying, harassment, and methods of prevention. Students also learn how to respect boundaries and how to stay safe online.
[ r e s p e c t ]™ (Grades 9-12)
Students learn how to recognize and respond appropriately and safely to sexual violence. They will reflect on their behaviors, learn how to respect other's personal boundaries, and avoid behaving in disrespectful and sexually abusive ways. Students will also learn how to reduce their risk of victimization, how to help peers in unhealthy relationships, and the importance of healthy, respectful relationships.
